Equipment

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1 package (17.3 ounces) frozen puff pastry (2 sheets), thawed
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F. Roll out thawed puff pastry sheets on a floured surface, place on a baking sheet, and prick with a fork. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Let cool completely.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Whisk over medium heat until thickened (5-7 minutes). Remove from heat.
  • Whisk egg yolks in a separate bowl. Gradually add hot milk mixture to yolks, whisking constantly. Pour back into saucepan and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until thickened. Stir in vanilla extract.
  • Assemble the dessert by placing one sheet of puff pastry on a platter, spreading custard over it, and topping with the second sheet. Dust with powdered sugar and chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
