  • 1 pound ground beef or lamb Choose your favorite meat for a hearty base.
  • 2 medium potatoes Peeled and diced.
  • 1 medium onion Finely chopped.
  • 2 cloves garlic Minced.
  • 1 tablespoon ginger Grated.
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds Provides a nutty aroma.
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder Enhances the overall flavor profile.
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala Adds complexity.
  • 0.5 teaspoon turmeric powder Gives a beautiful color.
  • 0.5 teaspoon red chili powder Adjust to taste.
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes Fresh or canned.
  • 0.25 cup fresh cilantro Chopped.
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For cooking.
  • to taste salt Enhances all the flavors.
  • 1 cup water To help cook the potatoes and meat.

Instructions
 

  • Prepare your ingredients by peeling and dicing the potatoes, chopping the onion, mincing the garlic, and grating the ginger.
  • In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Add the chopped onion and cook for about 5 minutes until translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for an additional minute.
  • Add the ground meat, breaking it apart with a spatula, and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add the diced potatoes and stir to coat them with the meat and spices.
  • Season with coriander powder, garam masala, turmeric, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
  • Add the diced tomatoes and water, bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and let simmer for 20-25 minutes until potatoes are tender.
  • Stir in the chopped cilantro before serving.
