Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm water about 110°F
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • coarse sea salt for sprinkling on top

Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, active dry yeast, and granulated sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy. Add the flour and salt, mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Punch down the risen dough, divide into 8 equal pieces, roll each into a rope about 1 inch thick, and cut into 1-inch pieces. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a rolling boil, add baking soda, and drop pretzel bites in batches for 30 seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon and place back on the baking sheet.
  • Preheat oven to 450°F. Brush tops of pretzel bites with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Serve with various dipping sauces like cheese dip, mustard, ranch dressing, marinara sauce, or sweet cream cheese dip.
