Cabbage
- 2 tablespoons olive oil for sautéing vegetables
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound ground beef (or turkey) choose your preferred protein
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional) for added heat
- 1 small head green cabbage, chopped (about 4 cups)
- 1 14.5-ounce can diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1 8-ounce can tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese for topping
Prepare the cabbage by removing the outer leaves, cutting it into quarters, removing the core, and chopping it into bite-sized pieces.
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and sauté for 5 minutes until translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
Add ground beef or turkey to the skillet, breaking it apart and cooking until browned, about 6 to 8 minutes. Drain excess fat.
Season the meat with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, oregano, and crushed red pepper flakes. Stir in chopped cabbage, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well.
Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, cover with aluminum foil, and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 30 minutes.
Remove the foil, sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top, and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.
