Bread

  • 8 cups cubed day-old bread Use white or whole wheat bread.
  • 1 cup unsalted butter Adds richness and helps sauté the vegetables.
  • 1 large onion, diced Provides a sweet and savory base flavor.
  • 3 stalks celery, diced Adds crunch and fresh taste.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Brings robust flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon dried sage Classic herb for stuffing.
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme Adds aromatic quality.
  • 1 tablespoon dried rosemary Contributes pine-like fragrance.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances flavors.
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper Adds heat and depth.
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth Essential for moistening the bread.
  • 2 large eggs, beaten Helps bind the stuffing.
  • 0.5 cup fresh parsley, chopped Adds color and fresh taste.

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Spread the cubed day-old bread evenly on a baking sheet and toast for 10-15 minutes until lightly golden. Let cool.
  • Melt the unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and celery, sauté for 5-7 minutes until soft. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the toasted bread cubes and sautéed vegetables. Add sage, thyme, rosemary, salt, and black pepper. Pour in the broth and add beaten eggs and parsley. Mix until combined.
  • Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
