Ingredients

Filling

  • 2 cups pecans, finely chopped These nuts provide a rich, nutty flavor and a satisfying crunch.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar This sweetener helps to balance the flavors and adds sweetness to the filling.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon A warm spice that enhances the overall taste of the baklava.
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted This is essential for brushing the phyllo dough, giving it a golden, crispy texture.
  • 1 package (16 oz) phyllo dough, thawed The star of the show, providing the flaky layers that baklava is known for.
  • 1 cup maple syrup This sweet syrup adds a unique flavor and sweetness to the rolls.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract A hint of vanilla enhances the overall flavor profile.
  • 1/2 cup water Used in the syrup to achieve the right consistency.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt A pinch of salt helps to balance the sweetness.

Instructions

  • Prepare the filling by combining finely chopped pecans, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon in a mixing bowl. Stir until evenly combined.
  • Assemble the baklava rolls by unrolling the phyllo dough, covering it with a damp towel. Brush one sheet with melted butter, layer another on top, and repeat until you have five sheets. Sprinkle a thin layer of the pecan mixture, roll tightly, and place seam-side down in a greased baking dish.
  • Bake the assembled rolls in a preheated oven at 350°F for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  • Prepare the syrup by combining maple syrup, water, vanilla extract, and salt in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 5 minutes. Pour the warm syrup over the hot rolls after baking.
  • Allow the rolls to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving to let the syrup soak in.
