Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract

Additional Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • food coloring red and green recommended

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together for 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter mixture and mix until smooth.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir gently until just combined.
  • Divide the dough in half. Color one half red and the other half green. Roll each into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Stack the green dough on top of the red dough, press together, and roll tightly into a log. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
  • Slice the chilled log into 1/4 inch thick rounds and place on baking sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  • Allow cookies to cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
