Pudding Base

In a medium saucepan, combine whole milk, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Whisk over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
Layer half of the vanilla wafers in a 9x13-inch baking dish, followed by half of the sliced bananas. Pour half of the pudding mixture over the bananas. Repeat with remaining wafers, bananas, and pudding.
In a mixing bowl, beat heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form. Spread over the top of the pudding. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
