Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour This is the base of your dough. It provides structure and helps create those lovely layers.
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt Salt enhances the flavor of the dough, balancing the sweetness of the chocolate.
  • 1 tablespoon sugar A touch of sugar adds sweetness to the dough, making it more delicious.
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed Cold butter is essential for creating flaky layers. It should be firm to the touch.
  • 0.5 cup cold water This helps bring the dough together without warming the butter.
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips These will be the star of your croissants, providing that rich chocolatey goodness.
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash) The egg wash gives your croissants a beautiful golden color when baked.

Instructions

  • Mix together the flour, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Add the cold, cubed butter and blend until it resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add cold water and mix until the dough comes together.
  • Shape the dough into a rectangle, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 60 minutes. Roll out the dough into a larger rectangle, fold into thirds, and refrigerate for another 30 minutes. Repeat this process one more time.
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out the dough into a rectangle, cut into triangles, and place chocolate chips at the wide end of each triangle. Roll up the triangles towards the point.
  • Curve the ends of each rolled triangle towards each other to form a crescent shape. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and proof for 30 minutes.
  • Brush the tops with the beaten egg and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
