Caramel Topping

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Cake Batter

  • 2 medium apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the caramel topping by melting butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a saucepan, then pour into a greased cake pan.
  • Arrange sliced apples on top of the caramel mixture in the cake pan.
  • Make the cake batter by mixing dry ingredients in one bowl and wet ingredients in another, then combine.
  • Pour the cake batter over the arranged apples and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 30-35 minutes.
  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting onto a serving plate.

Notes
