  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger Adds warmth and spice.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch Used to thicken the sauce.
  • 2 tablespoons water Helps create the cornstarch slurry.
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For cooking the chicken.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Adds a mild heat.
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional) For those who enjoy a bit of spice.
  • 2 pieces green onions, sliced For garnish, adding a fresh touch.

Instructions
 

  • Marinate the chicken by combining soy sauce, bourbon, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, minced garlic, minced ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes in a bowl. Add chicken pieces and coat well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Remove chicken from marinade and cook for 5-7 minutes until browned and cooked through.
  • Prepare the sauce by boiling the remaining marinade in a saucepan. Mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry, then add to the saucepan and stir until thickened (2-3 minutes).
  • Combine the cooked chicken with the thickened sauce in the skillet. Stir well and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.

Notes

For a non-alcoholic version, substitute bourbon with apple juice or chicken broth.
