Beef and Caramelized Onion Stir-Fry Ingredients
- 1 pound flank steak Thinly sliced against the grain for tenderness.
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For cooking the beef and onions.
- 2 large onions Thinly sliced to caramelize and add sweetness.
- 3 cloves garlic Minced for a fragrant kick.
- 1/4 cup soy sauce Provides a savory base for the sauce.
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar Adds sweetness and balances the flavors.
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar Offers a tangy note to the dish.
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper For seasoning and a bit of heat.
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes Optional, for those who enjoy a spicy kick.
- 2 green onions chopped For garnish and added freshness.
- cooked rice or noodles To serve as a base for the stir-fry.
Slice the flank steak against the grain into thin strips. Thinly slice the onions and mince the garlic.
In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and stir occasionally for 10-15 minutes until caramelized and golden brown. Remove and set aside.
In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Cook the thinly sliced flank steak for 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently until browned and cooked through.
Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant. Mix together the soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, black pepper, and red pepper flakes in a small bowl. Pour this sauce over the cooked beef and stir to combine.
Return the caramelized onions to the skillet and toss everything together gently. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until heated through.
