Ingredients

Biscuit Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Beef Filling

  • 1 pound thinly sliced roast beef
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For Serving

  • 1 cup au jus for dipping

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and prepare a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Add the cold, cubed butter and mix until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the cheddar cheese, then add the buttermilk and mix gently until just combined.
  • In a saucepan, combine the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper. Heat over medium heat until warm.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface, knead gently, and roll out to about 1-inch thickness. Cut into squares or circles and place half on the baking sheet. Add the warm beef filling on each biscuit and top with the remaining halves, pressing gently to seal.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and puffed up. Prepare the au jus by warming beef broth with Worcestershire sauce if not done already.
  • Remove biscuits from the oven, let cool slightly, slice in half, and serve with warm au jus for dipping.
